About the Work Unit:
The Office of Clinical Placement works collaboratively with faculty, program directors, and students to ensure all students have a productive clinical experience. The Office is responsible for recruiting appropriate clinical placement sites within the greater Middle Tennessee region for specialty-year students. It is also responsible for ensuring all appropriate agreements are in place and all agency requirements are met for distance students’ rotations. This includes negotiating agreements with agencies throughout the United States and occasionally overseas.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Clinical Placement Leadership & Operations
• Manage clinical placement operations across specialties to support local and distance students
• Provide strategic oversight of clinical placement processes to ensure compliance with licensure, regulatory, and Board of Nursing requirements
• Lead management of model agreement contracts and ensure timely execution and documentation
• Oversee accuracy, integrity, and optimization of clinical placement data within the Exxat system
• Ensure consistent, high quality placement experiences through process improvement and operational oversight.
Faculty, Student & Clinical Site Collaboration
• Act as senior liaison to faculty, students, and clinical partners to secure and sustain high-quality clinical placements
• Collaborate with faculty leadership to align placement strategy with curriculum, accreditation, and program growth needs
• Lead clinical site recruitment and geographic expansion efforts through targeted outreach and relationship-building
• Cultivate and maintain long-term partnerships with clinical sites through site visits, meetings, and ongoing communication
• Serve as primary point of contact for complex placement issues and stakeholder concerns
Training, Systems & Strategic Initiatives
• Provide leadership and oversight for Exxat system training, administration, and continuous optimization
• Create and facilitate virtual and in-person training for faculty, students, and staff on clinical placement processes and systems
• Plan and lead quarterly strategic meetings with faculty leadership and key stakeholders to assess placement capacity, address challenges, and support program innovation
• Serve as senior trainer and mentor for new Clinical Placement team members
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Placement.
Education and Certifications:
▪ Bachelor’s Degree, required
▪ Masters Degree, preferred
Experience and Skills:
▪ 5-7 years experience in clinical placement, academic operations or higher education, preferred
▪ Experience with leadership or supervisory responsibilities preferred
▪ Experience working with clinical placement platforms (Exaat or similar) preferred
Key Characteristics of a Successful Team Member in this Work Unit:
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills — able to work with diverse internal and external stakeholders such as students, faculty, clinical partners).
• Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving abilities to handle complex placement workflows.
• Proficiency with data and placement systems (e.g., Exxat) and general office software (MS Office Suite).
• Ability to lead trainings and mentorship for staff and faculty.
