United Health Services is looking for a Nurse Educator & Performance Improvement Coordinator to join our Cardio Stepdown Unit. You’ll lead performance initiatives, champion evidence-based practices, and create an environment where learning and quality thrive. In this role, you’ll collaborate with Nurse Managers and Directors of Nursing across sites to plan and implement orientation, in-service education, and staff development programs. You’ll ensure competency within the clinical area and provide guidance in reviewing and developing departmental policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide patient care that meets or exceeds Registered Nurse standards, including assessment, planning, delegation, coordination, implementation, and evaluation using the Nursing Process and evidence-based practice.

  • Conduct annual education needs assessments by gathering input from Quality Management, Nurse Managers, staff, and Nursing Education and Professional Practice teams.

  • Design and implement educational programs based on needs assessments, applying adult learning principles and ensuring consistency across sites.

  • Coordinate and manage required certifications for the unit (e.g., BASIC Coronary Course, Fetal Monitoring, NRP).

  • Develop and maintain a progressive orientation program aligned with Joint Commission standards, New York State requirements, and UHS Clinical Coaching guidelines.

  • Oversee orientation programs for new employees, including regular progress evaluations and reporting to Nurse Managers.

  • Facilitate and lead quality management and performance improvement activities within the practice area.

  • Compile and submit quarterly data on quality performance indicators to Nurse Managers and Directors of Nursing.

  • Maintain accurate educational records for orientation, mandatory training, and continuing education programs.

  • Plan and manage the annual competency assessment process to ensure staff compliance and completion.

  • Serve as an education consultant to nursing personnel and provide guidance on best practices.

  • Function as a Nurse Planner within the UHS Approved Provider Unit for Continuing Nursing Education after completing required training.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing

  • Three (3) years relevant clinical nursing experience

  • New York State Registered Nurse

  • CPR certification within 3 months of hire

  • NRP certification

Preferred:

  • Clinical Specialist with Master’s Degree in Nursing

  • Previous education or management experience

  • CPR Basic Life Support Instructor certification

  • Professional certification in a related nursing specialty (C-EFM, In-Pt OB)

  • Member of AWHONN

  • Experience in collaboration with various interdisciplinary teams
