The Financial Mathematics Program (FinMath) is a professional graduate program within the Department of Mathematics at The University of Chicago. As a pioneer in the field of quantitative finance, we have had the honor of shaping some of the brightest minds in the financial industry today. Job Summary
 

Reporting to the Director of Career Development, the Head of Career Advising and Programming has primary responsibility for career coaching services and professional development programming for the Financial Mathematics Program.

This position will leverage expertise to independently develop and implement advisory programs focused on career outcomes and professional development to deliver best in class service to students and alumni. Additionally, the position collaborates closely with the CDO Director to implement new initiatives across career services and supports employer relations.
The position works closely with the entire FinMath team, along with other units including the Department of Mathematics, the Physical Sciences Division, UChicagoGRAD, Career Advancement, and other campus partners across the University.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates existing career programming and advising processes across the program and creates plans to optimize programming/advising and maximize resources. Conceptualizes, innovates, and delivers programming and advising that is relevant for a range of students in the FinMath program, including those coming straight from undergraduate studies to those with previous work experience.

• Analyzes the competitive landscape of programs at other institutions to develop advising and programming strategies to enhance the career development opportunities and placement outcomes success.

• Expertly consults on the design and structure of career advising and programming services for a new online student cohort. Evaluates best practices for online learners and leads all advising and professional development programming for online students.

• Serves as instructor for FINM 38500: Career Seminar, including curriculum design and grade administration. Manages tracking and evaluation of student progress in the course.

• Oversees tracking and reporting of student data, including career outcomes.

• Leads data management efforts, including oversight and evaluation of CDO’s career service management systems.

• Collaborates on the design and delivery of alumni professional development programming.

• Conducts complex job search and career management related large lectures, hands-on workshops, special events, training programs, and one-on-one career coaching sessions. Acts as a lead resource for and directs students to other career resources as needed.

• Analyzes markets and trends as they relate to job searches. Assesses student feedback and evaluations and collaborates with other campus career services staff members, student organizations, or other staff to determine program offerings and innovations.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
