Job Description:

Summary:

The Student Research Assistant will work closely with Prof. Aquila on a project related to the analysis of air quality measurements with Purple Air monitors. The ideal candidate will have experience with Python programming and data analysis, a knowledge of environmental science, and able to perform work independently.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Independently develop Python scripts to analyze data from PurpleAir air quality monitors.

  • Evaluate empirical parameterization to correct for instrument biases using statistical techniques.

  • Create data visualizations.

  • Develop an empirical model to reduce the instrument bias.

  

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • This position is intended to go through approximately October 15, 2025 through June 1, 2026.

  • 10 hours per week.

  • The work schedule is flexible. The student will agree to meet weekly with Prof. Aquila at a regular day and time agreed upon at the start of the position.

Salary Range:

  • $17.95 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Experience with Python.

  • Experience in data analysis.

  • Familiarity with basic statistical methods.

  • Ability to communicate promptly and clearly.

  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

  • Good academic standing.

  • A laptop or computer is required for this job and can be provided to the research assistant by Prof. Aquila.
