Horizon’s Principal Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing and deploying cloud-based solutions with a focus on performance, security, and high availability. The responsibilities include selecting the right cloud services, implementing automation through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and optimizing cloud costs. The individual will lead cloud security practices and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Additionally, they will provide technical guidance to teams and act as an escalation point for troubleshooting. The role also emphasizes creating cloud governance, standards, and patterns to enhance operational efficiency.Designing and implementing cloud-based solutions, including infrastructure, applications and platforms. Designing cloud native services deployment patterns with strong emphasis on performance, high availability and resiliency. Performing POC/POV to select right cloud services, platforms, and tools for business applications. Creating cloud-focused governance, standards, building blocks, and patterns. Implementing and managing cloud security practices, including IAM roles, security groups, encryption, and compliance to protect PHI/PII data. Developing automation scripts and infrastructure as code (IaC) for efficient resource provisioning and deployment with strong emphasis on end-to-end automation and self-service model. Develop Finops practice focusing on standardization, cost optimization, and show back model. Providing technical expertise and guidance to other teams. Act as a point of escalation or troubleshooting & resolving technical issues.
Education/Experience
HSD or GED required, Bachelor//Master’s Degree preferred (or equivalent work experience) in computer science, information systems, or a related field. 5+ years of experience as a principal cloud engineer or similar role.
Additional Licensing, Certifications, Registrations
- Certification in one or more cloud platforms AWS, Azure, and GCP
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong technical skills in cloud computing:
Proficiency in AWS cloud platforms.
Azure & GCP cloud platform knowledge will be a plus.
Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, RedHat OpenShift Container platform)
Hands on experience working on service mesh (Istio, consul, Linkerd), CNI, Observability, DevSecOps tools.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
Experience with networking fundamentals (BGP, OSPF, TCP, UDP, DNS, Load Balancing).
Experience programming in one or more languages - python, Ruby, JavaScript, Go, Powershell, bash.
Strong experience in cloud foundation, landing zone, SAS integration model
