Job Description
We are hiring at Starling Physicians, a VillageMD company!
Job Specifications:
- Full time (40 hours)
- 4 days/week
- No weekends or nights
- Primary located in Wethersfield, CT, with infrequent travel to other sites required, based on the needs of the department
Essential Job functions:
- Practices safe administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy, infusions, and injections in accordance with protocols and guidelines
- Assess and monitor patients during and after infusion therapy
- Triage infusion patients in collaboration with providers for symptom management, toxicity assessment and needs for referrals within the RN scope of practice
- Assess learning needs and educates the patient and family in disease process, chemotherapy treatment plan, side effects, and side effect management.
- Document patient information, treatment plans, and progress in electronic medical records
- Communicate and work collaboratively with the patient, family and health care team members to develop and implement patient care. Function as the liaison between patients, staff, and physicians.
- Maintains efficient patient flow.
- Delivers direct patient care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with Starling Physicians policy.
- Prioritizes patient care by implementing physician orders and nursing procedures.
- Effectively communicates problems, concerns or issues to the Office Supervisor/Manager appropriately and promptly.
- Assures all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care.
- Able to multi-task and manage a complex workload effectively to provide safe, high quality patient care
- Obtains vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required. Documents appropriately in EHR.
- Appropriately adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste.
General Job functions:
- Provides high quality nursing care for hematology/oncology patients and family members for a patient population within the Infusion Center
- Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules.
- Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills
- Other duties as required.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Dexterity of hands and fingers.
- Endurance (e.g. continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking).
- Ability to lift 20 pounds

- Contact with patients or patient specimens are possible.
- Unplanned or unexpected exposure.
Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
- Current OCN Chemotherapy/Biotherapy card (Or within first month of hire).
- Current CT Nursing License
- BLS certification required
- 1+ year experience in oncology preferred.
