The Personal Finance Content team produces reference articles and guides that, in addition to the news team's daily coverage, assures that Yahoo Finance offers the broadest, most reliable and useful information about its audiences' most important financial decisions and opportunities. The Personal Finance Content team is focused on producing articles, calculators and other tools that help consumers understand their money and make smart decisions to increase their wealth. We're looking for enthusiastic, empathetic teammates who relish the challenge of helping people understand and navigate the uncertain financial world we live in. To work with us, you should be comfortable writing an article about how to find the best CD, working with the product team to build a compound interest calculator or collaborating on a search optimization project to make our work easier to find.

About the Role:

Yahoo Finance is seeking a skilled, forward-looking editor and content specialist to help guide our coverage of mortgages as part of our evergreen personal finance content effort. We're looking for an experienced, creative, and thoughtful individual who knows how to make freelance and staff writers operate at the highest levels of quality and integrity while ensuring every team member's contributions are valued. The editor’s goal will be to create and maintain high-quality, consumer-focused content and tools on mortgages, home buying, and related subjects that give people the information and confidence they need to find and get a mortgage and make smart personal finance decisions related to the home buying process.

The successful candidate will bring a creative and rigorous approach to assigning and editing articles and a proven record of tracking content production and performance, updating and optimizing articles and tools, and collaborating with product, engineering, design, and other departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceive and build content and tool roadmaps for credit cards and other personal finance topic areas

  • Assign and edit articles

  • Work closely with freelance contributors and staff writers

  • Guide and support writers, collaborate with other editors

  • Occasionally write articles

  • Monitor article and other content performance against SEO and revenue targets

  • Test, learn, and iterate on user experiences, article formats and other optimization areas

  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and design on new user experiences and tools that help Yahoo Finance users build wealth

  • Collaborate with compliance, PED, legal, business, and other teams to map and execute growth strategy 

Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years as a writer and editor in personal finance content marketing or journalism

  • Experience covering credit cards, rewards programs, credit scores, and the use of credit  

  • Careful, detail-oriented line and copy editing skills

  • A strong understanding of SEO

  • Experience building and using content workflow and monitoring systems

  • Understanding of how to monitor content against SEO and revenue metrics

  • Understanding of how content, product and commerce work together in an affiliate marketing environment

  • A test-and-learn mindset

  • A keen awareness of trends in online content, content marketing, and financial journalism

  • Familiarity with the personal finance challenges faced by Americans

  • Empathy for people facing those challenges
