Underwriting Director Commercial Surety

Key Responsibilities:

• Aid regional VP Developing and implement agency marketing strategy to provide for maximization of long term premium writings balanced with minimization of loss activity. 
• Elevated financial analysis skills to include risk identification, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
• Understanding of basic risks in construction.

• Use business acumen to perform, gather and review information on financial conditions, risk exposure, loss history, and economic trends that may impact the terms and conditions offered to the client
  • Execute Argo Surety Underwriting Strategy and coach team on same.
  • Recruit and develop underwriting staff to accomplish long term growth goals.
  • Review of live bond requests, new account and renewal account requests for programs beyond the authority of Senior Underwriters or other staff.
  • Collaborate with Regional Vice Presidents and CUO to mentor Underwriters and/or Trainees.
  • Collaborate with Regional Vice Presidents and CUO to shape and adjust underwriting and marketing strategies as opportunities or challenges are presented.
  • Maintain a high degree of visibility with Agency Partners and key accounts.
  • Attend Regional NASBP and other local trade association meetings and conferences for agency, account and personnel networking opportunities.
  • Training and Development
  • Provide training for underwriting team on an as needed basis.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Surety Leadership and Personnel to foster environment of “One Argo” across product lines. 
  • Develop foundational understanding of Argo Commercial surety strategy.
  • Share prospect information and facilitate cross selling to Agents and Accounts where appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University
• 5+ years of experience in Underwriting Commercial/Contract Surety bonds.
• Ability to exercise good business judgment when handling our clients.
• Must be detail-oriented, able to manage time and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrates the ability to produce error-free work and achieve high levels of accuracy.
• Flexibility to work overtime as needed by position and/or manager.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage many tasks simultaneously in addition to comfortably interacting with people in small groups and social situations.
• Ability to market to a multi-state region.
• Conducts meetings with agents and contractors with professionalism, command of construction & business subject matter and appropriate cordiality and familiarity.
• Must have strong PC skills, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, all employees are eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package.Colorado outside of Denver metro, Maryland, Nevada, and Rhode Island Pay Ranges:$145,300—$172,800 USDCalifornia outside of San Francisco metro area, Connecticut, Denver metro area, Washington State, and New York State (including Westchester County) Pay Ranges:$159,700—$190,100 USDNew York City and San Francisco metro areas Pay Ranges:$174,300—$207,400 USD
