About the role

The Data & Research Fellow will use existing data sources, interviews, and other strategies to support, inform, and provide recommendations for Arts Alliance’s strategies with different stakeholder groups (funders, donors, members, etc.) The Fellow will report to the Data, Research and Technology Director with regular interactions with the Membership, Development, Data/Research, and Public Funding Navigator teams. The fellow will provide written and verbal analysis throughout the summer, culminating in two (2) final data reports.

Primary Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Research and report on AAI’s membership 
  • Recommendation or proposal for GIS or other mapping technology for future implementation to map stakeholder groups (funders, donors, members, campaign members, action takers, etc.)
  • Collect, analyze and report on AAI’s multi-year membership data
  • Conduct interviews, 1:1s, and surveys of stakeholder groups
  • Provide additional research and analysis support as needed
  • Work with Data, Research, Technology Director to optimize data gathered for use in Salesforce CRM
  • Attend weekly check-ins, staff meetings, and team meetings
  • Participate in Arts Alliance Illinois internal organizational communications (e.g., Email, Slack, phone, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Additional Program Supports

The Fellow will also receive additional supports during their fellowship including:

  • Three (3), 1:1s with a member of AAI’s Arts Leadership Council (matched with fellow based on availability / interest)
  • Professional Development opportunities. The Fellow will receive at least one (1) registration to a workshop aligned with the fellowship goals (ex. Salesforce, Data Research / Analysis, etc.)

Fellowship Outcomes

  • Ongoing and final report on multi-year Membership data analysis
  • Recommendation or proposal of GIS or other mapping technology for future organizational implementation to support advocacy and community outreach efforts
  • Supporting research of potential funders and donors
  • Provide feedback at the end of the Fellowship which assesses the activities carried on during summer, results, and recommendations for future research and analysis

Requirements

We welcome applications from people without bachelor or graduate studies degrees who have relevant experience to the responsibilities outlined above. Although there are no educational requirements, strong candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Able to work self-directed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency with Microsoft 365 and Google Suite.
  • Highest attention to detail.
  • Strong cultural competence
  • Eager to apply constructive criticism.
  • Familiarity with the challenges facing arts venues, arts nonprofits, and artists in the state of Illinois is not required but would be preferred.
  • Some experience with data-mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS)

To be eligible for this fellowship, candidates should be/have:

  • Two years of experience in a research, information technology, data analysis or similar role
  • Resident of Illinois
  • Authorized to work in the US for any employer during the term of the fellowship

Benefits

The Fellow will be a full-time, seasonal, employee of the organization. They will be paid $19-$22 per hour, for up to 35 hrs per week, and a stipend to cover utilities. The fellow does receive a monthly utilities stipend (approx. $100/mo).
