Major Duties
This role assists the Director of College Advising (DCA) in coordinating advising activities and holistic student services within the college, providing essential support to the college advisement team. It involves performing highly complex professional Student Services work, including analyzing and resolving individual, group, and organizational challenges, developing and recommending courses of action, and implementing effective solutions. The incumbent takes a leadership role in managing the most complex student cases identified by the DCA, Associate Deans, or Department Chairs. This includes advising disqualified students on conditions for readmission, supporting students on academic notice, and assisting returning students.
- Provides comprehensive academic advisement for all students assigned to the college.
- Serves as the primary liaison with the Hub for International and Exploratory students who transition from the Hub to the college.
- Contributes to the design and development of the college’s academic advisement policies and procedures.
- Assists the DCA with the coordination and planning of first year advisement for incoming first-time freshman and first-time transfers.
- Assists the DCA with overseeing the advisement process throughout the advisement cycle, including training of academic advising staff, ensuring accuracy and efficiency of advisement services and making recommendations for appropriate changes or needs to programming.

Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field. Upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related, is preferred.
- Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
- A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Expert knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge. Working knowledge of the policies, practices and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned; and of the principles, problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management; general knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.
- Ability to: carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions; advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters; determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature; reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems of one or several program areas.
- Ability to: plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations; analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems, collect and evaluate data; and draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
