Chemical Safety / Industrial Hygenist

Argonne National Laboratory is currently seeking a Chemical Safety / Industrial Hygiene Professional to join their team. This role is responsible for developing and implementing laboratory safety and health programs within the Occupational Health and Safety department. Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining cognizance of technical developments in chemical hygiene and laboratory safety best practices
• Conducting laboratory exposure assessments and chemical exposure monitoring.
• Conducting experiment safety reviews and chemical risk analyses (e.g. What-If, FMEA, HazOp)
• Assessing appropriate selection and use of ventilated enclosures and chemical personal protective equipment
• Serves as Program Manager for one or more laboratory safety programs (e.g. TSCA Workplace Chemical Protection Program, laboratory design, beryllium safety, etc.) as assigned by management.
• Develops and conducts On-The-Job, classroom, or computer-based training programs in the area of laboratory safety.
• Serves on a chemical emergency on-call rotation team

Position Requirements

• 4+ yrs work experience in chemical safety, chemical engineering, or industrial hygiene role
• B.S. or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Industrial Hygiene
• Certifications as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Laboratory and pilot-plant chemical risk assessments
  • Laboratory ventilation
  • Industrial Hygiene and exposure monitoring
  • LASER safety and control systems
  • Non-ionizing radiation hazards and controls
  • Chemical lifecycle management
  • Toxicology, including exposure pathways and toxic or carcinogenic endpoints
  • Nanomaterial safety
• Knowledge of 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health Program, DOE Order 440.1, 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, and ACGIH TLVs.
• Skill in the interpretation of regulations and establishing the means of meeting the requirements in a diverse operational and research environment.
• Knowledge of hazards and exposures common to laboratory and research operations.
• Knowledge of sampling methods and equipment, understanding of the limitations of the analytical methods, and knowledge of hazard engineering controls and personal protective equipment.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical assistance for investigations and mitigating hazards common to research laboratory
• Skill in oral and written communication, including preparation of effective reports.
• Experience with project management skills, including scheduling of workplace exposure assessments
• Skill in using software to manage and track workplace exposure assessments.
• Skill in building and sustaining consensus and collaboration among key stakeholders.
• Skill in communicating complex chemical exposure risk issues in clear and concise terms

The expected hiring range for this position is $86,299.00 - $134,626.05.
