Project Overview:
Bechtel is the licensing, engineering, procurement, and construction partner on TerraPower's Natrium team. Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for its Advanced Reactor demonstration Program, Natrium is participating in a DOE initiative to re-establish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy that provides matching funds to industry to design and build an operational advanced reactor. TerraPower, a leading advanced generation technology company founded by former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, will be deploying its 345 MWE sodium fast reactor (SFR), called Natrium. The Natrium Demonstration plant features an advanced, cost-competitive reactor design that is safer, easier and less costly to construct, less expensive to operate, and able to provide energy that is competitive with fossil fuels. It also features an innovative molten salt storage output, combined, the plant can produce more than 500 MWE. The Natrium Demonstration plant will be licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
Job Summary:
This position evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptions and modifications. In this role, you will perform complex Control Systems engineering tasks, including preparation and reviewing design data and drawings, with emphasis on instrumentation procurement support. This position is performed under the leadership of a Control Systems Engineering supervisor, lead, or other designee.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. #LI-EH1
Major Responsibilities:
- Coordinates Control Systems engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, other Engineering disciplines, functional departments and the client
- Specifies instrumentation and control valves for various plant systems
- Generates instrument and control valve data sheets and material requisitions
- Performs technical bid evaluations
- Reviews supplier-provided data and documentation
- Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports and proposals
- Designs and reviews Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for various plant systems
- Prepares and reviews control narratives
- Prepares and reviews control logic diagrams
- Generates and applies Instrument Installation Details (IIDs)
- Prepares and reviews control cabinet/panel layouts
- Works within various Control Systems databases (e.g., Instrument Index, I/O list, etc)
- Provides guidance and coaching to other Control Systems engineering personnel for specific tasks, as requested
