Job Summary:
The Buyer for Machine Parts, Sheet Metal Parts, Raw Materials, and Outside Processes is responsible for purchasing and managing critical materials and outsourced services to support production needs. The Buyer will work with suppliers to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of high-quality materials, collaborating with engineering, production, and quality teams to maintain an efficient and compliant supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sourcing and Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and engage suppliers for machine parts, sheet metal parts, raw materials, and outside processing services (e.g., machining, plating, heat-treating). Obtain competitive quotes, negotiate prices, and process orders to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and timely delivery. Manage supplier performance and resolve any issues related to product quality, delivery timelines, or cost discrepancies.
- Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels for critical components to prevent shortages or overstock. Collaborate with the production team on forecasted demand and align purchasing with production schedules.
- Cost Management: Negotiate pricing with suppliers to optimize material costs and support company cost reduction targets without compromising quality.
- Quality Assurance: Work closely with the quality and engineering teams to ensure purchased parts and materials meet all quality specifications. Address any quality issues with suppliers, including coordinating returns or replacements as needed.
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and detailed records of purchase orders, contracts, supplier certifications, and quality assurance documentation. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in purchasing, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Knowledge of machine parts, raw materials, and outsourced production processes (e.g., heat-treating, plating) is a plus
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and suppliers
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with ISO or similar quality standards
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles
