Position Summary
TurtleTree is seeking a Food Science Student Intern to assist with product development featuring our novel food ingredients. The ideal candidate will work independently with guidance. This candidate will participate in cutting-edge product development processes and work closely with an international team of scientists, regulatory consultants, business managers and product developers.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the formulation and preparation of food product prototypes at lab-scale, including the organization of sensory tastings to assess product quality.
- Support lab-scale shelf life and stability testing of ingredients and finished products.
- Use analytical chemistry techniques to determine the stability of bioactives in a variety of product matrices and processing conditions.
- Analyze data and create reports and presentations to present internally.
- Perform market research of food categories, channels and products to identify consumer insights and market trends for potential applications.
- Participate in weekly meetings with internal teams and schedule meetings with external partners, as needed.
- Work closely in support of the extended TurtleTree team (regulatory affairs, brand and marketing, sales).
Work Environment:
This position is to be based in TurtleTree’s Woodland office near UC Davis. TurtleTree is a highly collaborative environment and one of our greatest strengths is our team-based approach to problem solving. We are looking for candidates who are self-starters with strong internal motivation and excellent communication.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Food Science or relevant fields.
- Good understanding of food and ingredients chemistry.
- Previous experience in analytical chemistry techniques, including SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, HPLC is preferred.
- Has an interest in food regulation and/or product development.
- Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Collaborative personality with good interpersonal skills.
- Results-oriented and comfortable working with moderate supervision.
Benefits
Position Details:
3 to 6-month paid internship with a 10-20-hour weekly time commitment.
Compensation (DOE):
$18 -$25 per hour.
