Class A Hazmat Driver (1 Overnight Per Week)

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Company provides industrial waste services to its customers.  The Industrial HazMat Driver operates a tractor-trailer and other truck equipment to haul industrial waste to a variety of final disposal or recycle facilities.   The Industrial HazMat Driver provides efficient response times and a high level of service to the Company’s customers.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Transports hazardous waste, hazardous materials, industrial fluids, and non-hazardous wastes in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines.
• Operates a variety of vehicles including, but not limited to vans, straight trucks, tankers, vacuum tankers and roll offs.
• Performs safety inspections and maintains a DOT driver’s log and records, as required by DOT.
• Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections of all equipment operated as required or instructed.
• Maintains satisfactory customer service by maintaining radio and/or telephone communication with dispatch, supervisor, or manager to receive instructions on pickups and deliveries.
• Completes work tickets and maintains daily inventory of tools, fittings and other equipment associated with the transport vehicle.
• Reports all safety issues, incidents and concerns to Company management and notifies of current and/or anticipated repair needs.
• Responsible for making sure all jobs are operated in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
• Use Personal Protective Equipment when needed or required.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
• May require up to 30% OTR.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Knowledge of equipment associated with the trucking of industrial and/or hazardous waste

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker and hazmat endorsements.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience driving commercial trucks.

Additional Job Details & Requirements

• Required Endorsements: Must have Tanker and HazMat endorsements
• Transmission: Fleet consists of automatic transmissions
• TWIC Card: Must have a TWIC card or be willing to obtain one upon hire
• Schedule:
  • Typical hours vary between 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday
  • Occasional Saturday work required
  • Sundays off
• OTR Requirement:
  • One overnight OTR trip guaranteed
  • Hotel provided; $112 per night allowance
• Compensation:
  • Union position (CBA governed)
  • $34.00/hour, with flexibility depending on experience (DOE)
• Equipment Operated:
  • Tractor trailers, tankers, and dry vans
• Work Environment:
  • Customer sites
  • Loading and unloading responsibilities
