How you make a difference

Make a Difference in Mental Health as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT)!

 

Are you a compassionate and skilled healthcare professional with a passion for supporting individuals in their mental health journey? As a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT), you’ll play an essential role in delivering care through the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You’ll guide and teach individuals served, using your expertise to lead activities that support their well-being, all within the scope of your education and the Nursing Practice Act (NPA).

 

Working closely with individuals Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST), you’ll be responsible for administering medications, monitoring vitals, conducting chart reviews, and collaborating with psychiatric prescribers to ensure optimal care, treatment, and services. You’ll also facilitate tele-psychiatry appointments and provide restoration of competency services in both group and individual settings, helping IST individuals served move forward in their mental health journey.

Key Responsibilities

• Assessment and Data CollectionAssist in assessing the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of individuals served, documenting encounters using the SOAP charting method as required.

• Treatment Planning and CoordinationHelp plan individualized treatment by collaborating with the RDON/RNs and other staff, applying resources and knowledge in patient care and teaching.

• Chart Reviews and Psychiatric CollaborationConduct chart reviews, assist with psychiatric care needs, and document vital signs for psychiatric providers, including facilitating tele-psychiatry appointments.

• Medication Administration and SafetyAdminister medications following healthcare provider orders, ensure proper techniques and safety procedures are followed, and be mindful of potential drug reactions or overdoses.

• Clinical Procedures and Emergency ResponseImplement clinical and technical care as per policies and assist in medical or minor surgical procedures. Respond promptly to codes or health emergencies following established guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

• Required: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience:

• Preferred: One (1) year of clinic experience.

Licenses:

• Required: Current licensure as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) in the state of employment.
