The Senior Buyer (Buyer III) is a key leader on the Merchant Team, responsible for driving product strategy, assortment planning, and performance across critical merchandise categories. This role leads a cross-functional approach to product development and go-to-market execution, partnering across the Core Product Team (Merchants, Planning, Design/Product Development), as well as Consumer Experience & Insights, Marketing, Visual Merchandising, Sourcing, Stores, E-commerce, and Operations. The Senior Buyer brings a design- and customer-led mindset to every stage of the merchandising process—translating insights into strategy, and strategy into high-performing assortments that fuel growth and brand relevance.
Category Strategy & Business Leadership
- Own the vision, assortment strategy, and financial performance for assigned product categories.
- Identify white space and drive category evolution through insight-driven planning, customer data, and trend analysis.
- Present seasonal strategies and business updates to leadership, providing clear recommendations and performance narratives.
Product & Assortment Development
- Lead the end-to-end development of design-led, customer-focused assortments across all channels.
- Partner with Product Development and Sourcing to bring exclusive, differentiated product to market efficiently.
- Shape and manage pricing architecture to align with brand strategy, customer expectations, and margin goals.
- Ensure each SKU has a clear role and contributes to cohesive, high-performing assortments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Core Product Team (Merchants, Planning, Product Development) to ensure aligned execution.
- Collaborate with Consumer Experience & Insights to validate customer relevance and product resonance.
- Align with Marketing, Visual Merchandising, and Operations on storytelling, and in-store/eComm execution.
Vendor Management & Strategic Sourcing
- Cultivate vendor relationships that support innovation, speed, and brand alignment.
- Guide partners through strategic direction and product expectations to ensure on-brand development.
- Negotiate pricing and product terms to support margin targets and inventory flexibility.
Team Leadership & Process Optimization
- Coach and develop junior buyers to grow merchant capabilities and decision-making confidence.
- Streamline workflows and drive operational improvements across cross-functional teams.
- Contribute to Merchant Team initiatives that elevate product quality, process agility, and team performance.
