Software Engineer

THE ROLE & THE TEAM

As a Software Engineer in our Data Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the foundation of Zalando's data platform. Your primary focus will be designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance data transformation infrastructure that is not only efficient but also reliable at scale. Through continuous innovation and challenging the status quo, you'll enable our organization to access valuable data-driven insights rapidly.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Work within Zalando's central data infrastructure team, responsible for mission-critical services across the entire Zalando group

• Follow Data Mesh principles to grow a key component of Zalando's data strategy and drive innovation in data transformation systems at massive scale

• Collaborate with diverse teams of talented engineers, data scientists, and analysts to implement and maintain high-performance data-processing and data integration systems on top of lakehouse architecture

• Work with product managers, senior engineers, and peers in neighboring infrastructure teams to develop the system architecture and ensure seamless integration into Zalando's central data platform

• Ensure operational excellence and scale the platform based on Databricks to deliver impact in a rapidly growing environment

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

• You possess hands-on experience with cloud technologies (preferably AWS).

• You have an experience with container/orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Docker) and infrastructure as code framework (e.g CloudFormation or Terraform)

• You have solid programming skills in Python, Java, or other JVM languages, along with SQL knowledge

• You have an understanding of running data processing pipelines in production using distributed data processing frameworks like Apache Spark. Experience with Databricks is a plus.
