Job Description Summary
As part of the Competitive Analysis team, you will analyze the competitive landscape for retirement plan administration. This will include coverage of all types of defined contribution plans (401(k), 403(b), NQDC, etc.). Significant emphasis will be on pooled plans (MEPs, PEPs) given Transamerica’s leading position in that market. You will contribute to R&D, developing insights into peers, and work with Product Development, Distribution, Marketing and Finance teams toward the goal of developing top-quartile product and service offerings for Transamerica. Once established as the go-to person for defined contribution competitive intelligence, other product categories will be added – for example, defined benefit plans and rollover IRAs – based on Transamerica’s strategic priorities. Responsibilities
• Develops competitor reporting and narrative analysis to improve Transamerica's offerings and market positioning, making Transamerica more innovative, competitive, and responsive to market trends and to customer needs
• Synthesizes a variety of inputs, and information and data sources to create and maintain databases of peer companies’ pricing and features, known or inferred strategies of competitors, and statements of management teams
• Communicates broadly to a wide range of internal audiences about Transamerica’s strategy versus that of peers
• Maintain Excel spreadsheet (such as the RP Competitor Grid) and reports containing visualizations of the data we take in to provide our stakeholders an understanding of Transamerica’s standing in the retirement market
• Evaluates sales (gross/net deposit trends), asset, plan, and participant growth (in total and by plan size) comparing Transamerica’s commercial momentum with that of competitors. Analyzes market share/rank trends (quarterly or annually depending upon data availability) comparing Transamerica’s commercial momentum with that of competitors. Publishes a quarterly report analyzing industry, Transamerica, and competitor trends
• Publishes (on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, depending on the needs of the audience and the flow of news) a RP CI newsletter, drawing attention of RP colleagues across the company to peer company and industry announcements and developments
• Develops relationships with Transamerica colleagues in Distribution and Marketing to gather insights from those on the “front lines”
