About the role

Shippers Supply is seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Finance to lead our finance, purchasing and IT leaders and contribute to the overall success of our organization. As a well-established privately owned company in the packaging solutions industry, we have been a trusted partner to businesses throughout the upper Midwest since 1928.

As the Director of Finance, you will play a critical role in driving financial performance and growth. You will be responsible for increasing enterprise value through balancing short-term performance and long-term value drivers.  This includes the development of financial, procurement and technology goals and the supporting strategy, systems, processes, and metrics. As a member of the Executive team you will contribute at a strategic and tactical level to guide company direction, strategic planning, decision making and execution in alignment with the company vision, mission, and corporate objectives.

This is an executive leadership role that requires strong business acumen, analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in financial management, strategic planning, and team leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and development for leaders and team members of Accounting, Technology and Procurement
  • Analyze and interpret financial information on the company's performance, including long term trends; make recommendations concerning resource allocation and business operations to improve company performance.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and best practices.
  • Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, ROI analysis and variance analysis.
  • Oversee technology initiatives that leverage technology, systems, information management to create efficiencies and advancement of the organization.
  • Responsible for leading the procurement initiatives and oversight of the procurement and purchasing processes to maximize margins and profitability with consideration for company offerings, service level, strategic vendor partnerships, supply chain risk management, cost and quality. Establish objectives and oversee long term planning including driving E&O and Inventory strategies.
  • Develop, negotiate or approve contracts or agreements with suppliers, distributors, customers, federal or state agencies, or other organizational entities.
  • Support company growth through acquisition strategy including due diligence, financing and deal planning and leading post-close integration activities such as data conversations, system transitions and business optimization..
  • Ensure cash flow and working capital is appropriate for the organization’s operations.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, financial consultants, insurance brokers and key vendors & customers.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting roles.
  • Prior experience in a leadership or management role.
  • Experience in a supply chain/ distribution and manufacturing organization(s) of relevant size and complexity preferred
  • Strong cost accounting, financial analysis and forecasting skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of financial regulations, accounting principles, and best practices.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team with a roll up your sleeves philosophy and be a champion and a role model for the Company mission, culture and values.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office suite. Acumatica experience a plus
