JOB DESCRIPTION
These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. The individual in this position performs project management function and provides support to the City of Atlanta Department of Corrections. The focus of this role is to implement a variety of community service-related projects, manage corrections related special projects including joint agency projects with local government entities, preparation of jail reports and statistics, capital and security related improvement projects, and other highly technical special projects for the Department of Corrections and Community Service. May work independently but will also work closely with the Chief of Corrections and the Department of Corrections’ executive team. Otherwise, mostly works as a fully functioning individual contributor.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Defines and develops project/program management best practices, processes, and policy to ensure alignment with departmental strategy and goals. Defines and consults on measurement strategies, tools, scorecards across the Department.
- Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines.
- Assist and suggest how tasks should be delegated on the project to employees best positioned to complete them
- Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project.
- Serving as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy.
- Monitors all projects and ensures achievement of all objectives; develops and maintains professional relationships with internal and external clients; develops strategy for all business objectives and determines effective implementation.
- Ensure alignment with the Department of Corrections and Mayor’s Office to keep the project synchronous with their goals.
- Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected.
- Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change.
- Ensures that effective project management governance, procedures, tools and financial controls are established and maintained.
- Leads initiatives to partner with internal teams to plan, scope, and manage for highest quality client experience and results; monitors all project processes and operations for time and resource efficiencies, cost management, and process improvement opportunities. After securing marching orders from the Chief of Corrections, the Project Manager III will make decisions with other workers and will have responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited college or university. A minimum of 7 years of professional experience managing complex projects and initiative for a government agency.
Preferred Education and Experience
A Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field and 10 years of directly related experience, (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
