About the opportunity

At Xplor, the Central Technology Team has one main purpose: to enable and complement the business strategies and goals while solving real problems for our customers and users.

We have dozens of applications in our everyday-life verticals that all have their technology uniqueness and their individual purpose. We also use some of the latest technology in Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Containers and are constantly looking to find innovative new ways to meet the challenges of running a unique global business.

Database Reliability Engineers (DBRE) are responsible for keeping database systems that support all production systems running smoothly 24/7/365. DBREs utilize a mix of skills from administration, data engineering, and software development to apply sound engineering principles, operational discipline and mature software development and automation, specializing in databases. DBREs work in partnership with our SRE, infrastructure, and development teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Construct and maintain automated database change pipelines in concert with our Site Reliability Engineers
  • Provide software developers assistance with database changes
  • Monitor environments to detect any performance impact as changes are promoted
  • Proactively address issues that may arise in lower environments which would cause a slowdown in software development
  • Diagnose and assist in resolving suboptimal database access patterns (i.e. Deadlocks, Excessive Blocking)
  • Utilize monitoring solutions to provide prompt alerting of issues and outages
  • Assist with building and maintaining database infrastructure using industry best practices to ensure reliability, security, capacity, and performance.
  • Provide OnCall support for outages

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years experience with PostgreSQL or equivalent RDBMS. 
  • Available for on-call schedule.
  • Experience with Amazon AWS (RDS/EC2).
  • Experience with Query Tuning
  • Experience with scripting languages (Powershell, bash, ruby, Python, etc)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable on PostgreSQL internals (Wait stats, indexing, DMVs, Query Plans)
  • Knowledgeable on server infrastructure as pertains to SQL (storage, network, memory, CPU).
  • Familiarity with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code solutions.
  • Familiarity with high availability architecture such as Log-Shipping or Streaming Replication.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL solutions such as MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with Monitoring Solutions (Configuration/alert tuning).
  • Experience with version control (git).
  • Experience with ORMs (Django, hibernate, Dapper, etc).

  • Exempt:  The average base salary pay range for this position is $100,000 to $135,000 USD
  • May be considered for a discretionary bonus
