Infrastructure Platform Engineering at SailPoint

Our Infrastructure Platform team is responsible for designing, building, and operating a world-class scaled cloud environment in AWS. They closely work with developers and peer infrastructure teams to deliver a highly-available, dynamically scaling infrastructure accessed by millions of users across thousands of customers every day. They prioritize a culture of engineering and operations excellence to create a stable, predictable platform at scale for SailPoint’s Identity Security Cloud, the leading and most comprehensive identity solution in the world.

About the Role

As the Infrastructure Platform Team manager, you will play a pivotal role in securing some of the world’s most important companies. You will lead a team of motivated engineers responsible for the cloud and compute platform on which Identity Security Cloud runs. Building on AWS cloud and Kubernetes, we run many thousands of pods on thousands of nodes across hundreds of services deployed to many regions. The team is responsible for designing, deploying, and operating the foundational compute platform that is the backbone of our Cloud. You will partner with fellow infrastructure and development teams to deliver cutting edge features reliably and predictably.

Responsibilities

  • Run daily team operations: We operate using modified Scrum framework that enables an operations team to manage its many needs and demands. The team manager is responsible for ensuring priorities are followed, urgent work is done timely, and planned work progresses on schedule.

  • Enhance the platform: Alongside architects, leads, and technology SMEs, the manager will develop a roadmap and then lead the design and execution of the roadmap’s vision and goals.

  • Collaborate with Peer Teams: The Infrastructure Platform team has many users and component owners on its platform including Data Operations, CI/CD, Observability, and SRE teams. The manager will contribute to architecture decisions and facilitate cross-team collaboration to maximize the operational efficiency and stability of the overall infrastructure platform.

  • Collaborate with Development Teams: This team is the foundation layer of our SaaS. All development teams work with the Infrastructure Platform team to design and deploy their code and AWS resources. The manager will ensure effective communication, dependency management, and tracking of cross-team projects and needs. The manager and his or her engineers will ensure that all critical facets are considered such as security, cost efficiency, stability, and operational maturity.

  • Foster a culture of service ownership: Foster a culture of excellence through code-to-production service ownership. Each team owns what they build from inception to design to production health and stability.

  • Build, Mentor, and Lead the Infrastructure Platform DevOps team: Oversee, grow, and develop a large team of engineers by focusing on DevOps culture, communication, engineering excellence, and career development.

  • Cost optimization and budgeting: We run an efficient and lean compute platform. The Infrastructure Platform team has a key role in planning, cost control, and improving the cost efficiency of our platform.

  • Key technologies: The Infrastructure Platform team is responsible for the all the various SaaS AWS Environments. They deploy new regions, configure new features and services, and assist fellow teams with troubleshooting as the final AWS team of experts. They also own the Compute platform build on Kubernetes (EKS), core networking, edge and internal networking, and PaaS vendor connectivity. Alongside fellow infrastructure teams, they are responsible for ensuring that developers have self-service for configuration where possible, provide expert guidance and oversight where needed, and lead the way in introducing new tools and features to the platform.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing and leading a cloud infrastructure team

  • Deep understanding of computing, networking, and cloud concepts and general technical expertise

    • 5+ years of AWS experience

    • Azure experience a Plus

    • 3+ years of Kubernetes experience

    • Programing languages: Python and/or Go

    • Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform

    • Data center or networking experience

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum frameworks

  • Experience with metrics and cloud observability

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills

  • Ability to work with and organize cross-functional teams at all levels

  • Passion for engineering excellence, reliab
