Assistant Project Director
Overview
The Assistant Project Director supports the Project Director in overseeing operations, compliance, staff performance, and client satisfaction across Oklahoma City’s four wastewater treatment facilities, while also providing expert-level process engineering support. This role combines operational leadership with hands-on technical expertise to ensure regulatory compliance, optimize plant performance, and drive continuous improvement through data-driven, technology-focused solutions.
This position plays a key role in process control, regulatory compliance, biosolids and engineering support, serving as a technical resource for plant staff, leadership, and the City of Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma “A” Wastewater License preferred
Professional Engineer license preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Leadership
• Support daily operations and process control to ensure permit compliance and optimal plant performance.
• Serve as a key point of contact with the City of Oklahoma City, maintaining strong client relationships and clear communication.
• Lead and support staff development, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and scheduling.
• Provide oversight and support regulatory reporting and compliance activities (DMRs, MORs, inspections, audits).
• Assist with budgeting, financial tracking, procurement, and cost control.
• Support asset management initiatives, primarily making process assets are operational and properly maintained
• Drive SOP development, standardization across facilities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Process Engineering & Technical Support
• Provide engineering and process recommendations related to treatment processes, equipment selection, and operational changes.
• Perform process analysis and modeling of wastewater treatment systems.
• Provide engineering and process support to existing projects, including staff training and operational optimization.
• Evaluate and recommend new and emerging wastewater treatment technologies.
• Review and interpret engineering specifications, design drawings, and technical data.
• Prepare and present technical recommendations through written reports and presentations to clients and municipal stakeholders.
• Support changes to wastewater process models and operational strategies.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering or equivalent combination of education and wastewater operations experience.
• Minimum 5 years of wastewater operations experience with supervisory experience preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering design and/or operation of municipal wastewater treatment facilities preferred.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
• Highest level of state wastewater operator certification preferred.
• Strong understanding of municipal wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to independently define problems, analyze data, and implement effective engineering and operational solutions.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work in office and industrial plant environments.
• Ability to walk facilities, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to safely navigate wastewater treatment facilities.
Travel
• Approximately 10–15% travel, primarily within the Oklahoma City region, with occasional additional travel as project needs arise.
