Job Description
Puget Sound Energy's (PSE) Regional System Planning (RSP) team seeks a Senior Engineer to join our team!
In this role, you will lead technical initiatives to enhance system reliability and reduce wildfire risk across PSE's 12.5kV and 34.5kV electric distribution system. You'll divide your time between studying the electric system to identify reliability improvements and advancing PSE's wildfire mitigation program. This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on our distribution system's safety and performance.
You will apply advanced engineering principles to complex projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive results. Drawing on your extensive experience, you'll help shape strategy, provide mentorship to the engineering team, and implement innovative solutions to improve distribution system reliability.
This position serves as a technical leader for the team and is ideal for experienced engineers seeking a role in electric utility engineering, with opportunities to influence the future of PSE's electric reliability strategy. In this capacity, you will provide professional engineering support and technical guidance to junior engineers, offer technical direction for the team, understand corporate strategy and priorities, and present information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

This job is considered “safety sensitive” as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.
Job Responsibilities
• Perform reliability studies using Synergi for power system simulation and analysis
• Develop, plan, and justify reliability improvement and wildfire mitigation projects for the electric distribution system
• Lead and mentor junior engineers, engineers-in-training, and other technical staff
• Coordinate with other Planning teams for holistic issue resolution
• Provide technical support for the operation, construction, and maintenance of PSE assets
• Review designs to ensure projects achieve the justified benefits and comply with standards and design requirements
• Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies in electric utility systems that can improve system reliability
• Collaborate with the Electric System Design engineers to clearly define project scope for improved system reliability
• Apply engineering principles and practices
• Support emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field.
- Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after 8 or more years practice as a degreed engineer). Years of acquired experience is provided as a guide and alone does not constitute readiness for job level as individual’s skill acquisition rates can vary significantly.
- Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
• Experience working within the utility industry.
• Possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) License.
• Knowledge of engineering economics, utility accounting practices, and industry standards for electric reliability.
• Experience leading complex engineering projects related to distribution systems, wildfire mitigation, or grid modernization
