What We Offer
This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work 16-24 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week. The pay range for this position is $19.59 - $29.39/hour. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $19.59 - $24.49/hour. This position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.
Candidates with bilingual skills in Spanish may be eligible to receive a bilingual services stipend of $50 per pay period.
Location & Schedule
The Buffalo Bill Museum is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Assistant to welcome and orient guests, provide general administrative support for museum operations, and assist with interpretation, educational programs, outreach and social media.
The typical schedule for this position will be 8:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m., including one weekend day and some evenings, though scheduled days may vary, and scheduled hours may increase or decrease based on need and seasons.
Public transportation is not available to Lookout Mountain Park and applicants should have access to their own transportation.
Who We Are & What You’ll Do
The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave is part of the Denver Mountain Parks system and is located at Lookout Mountain Park in Golden, Colorado. Lookout Mountain Park includes the Buffalo Bill Museum and grave site, a café and gift shop, picnic area, and related facilities, and has breathtaking views of Golden and Denver.
The museum collects, preserves, and interprets artifacts and archival materials associated with William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, the Wild West show, and the diverse performers who toured nationally and internationally with the show. We are a small museum with a collection of 9,000 items that is of interest to the public, collectors, and scholars. We attract local, national, and international visitors, and have a high visitation rate in comparison to the size of our staff and building footprint.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serve as the first point-of-contact for visitors to the Buffalo Bill Museum
Interact with the public and internal customers in person, by phone and by email in a professional, courteous manner
Answer questions related to the Buffalo Bill Museum and history and assist visitors with research requests
Operate the cash register, balance out the register, and prepare reports
Keep brochures and foreign language translation guides stocked
Open and close the museum
Monitor security cameras, contact park rangers or law enforcement in the case of an emergency
Assist with event preparation, educational programs, and community outreach
Present short interpretive programs onsite
Create content for social media following museum’s social media plan
Create program props, worksheets, handouts, other audio/visual aids, and computer-generated presentations to enhance education and interpretive programs
Assist with collections database including photographing artifacts and scanning archival materials

Our ideal candidate will have:
An interest in history
Experience working at a museum, cultural or natural history site
Experience planning, development and presentation of historical and curriculum-based education programs for kindergarten through high school students
Experience in researching, developing, and presenting a variety of place-based, educational programs on history and/or cultural resource topics for diverse audiences
Certified Interpretive Guide certificate through the National Association for Interpretation or willingness to complete once hired
