About the role

Are you interested in developing solutions that impact the daily lives of over four million Finns? OP Group is not only the leading financial group in Finland but also the largest employer and one of the most significant software houses in the country.

As a player in the financial sector, we at OP Financial Group maintain high quality standards for services and offer reliability. We are now seeking a dedicated Senior Developer to join our Payment services team. Check out our position and apply today!

What is this role about?

In the Payment Services tribe, we are at the heart of banking operations. We maintain and develop a wide range of payment-related services, such as our internal payment capabilities, cash management services for our corporate customers, and various API solutions.

As payment services continue to evolve and change, we are now strengthening our team with an experienced Developer. In this role, you will get the chance to navigate in a diverse technological landscape, handling integrations with multiple dependencies across different teams, and managing processes that transcend team boundaries.
You will be part of a high-quality, proactive, and DevOps-oriented team. We operate within a close-knit network of professionals, collaborating extensively with other development teams. Our team consists of 11 members, split between Helsinki and Oulu.

Your team members work geographically in both Oulu and Helsinki, so both locations are possible. Like elsewhere at OP, we combine local and remote work flexibly in our everyday life.

What do we expect from you?

As a Developer, you will work with your team to focus specifically on building, developing, and maintaining OP's critical payment services. These services are central to enabling the execution of payments in various channels. In addition to integrations, you will work daily on databases, APIs, and automation.

Here's a more detailed description of the skills we hope you possess:

  • Strong experience in back-end development (Java), REST APIs, system integrations, and SQL databases

  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (Jenkins, CI/CD, Git, Maven)

  • Experience working as part of an agile development team

  • Previous experience on Python is an advantage

  • Strong interest and/or previous experience in the payment domain

  • Fluency in English and optionally in Finnish

  • In addition to the above, we are particularly pleased if you have previous experience with: Docker, Kubernetes, cloud environments (Azure)

You do not need to have experience in all of the above, but we naturally appreciate your technical background and strong work experience in similar roles. The main thing is that you are capable of learning new technological entities, interested in business-oriented work, and ready to get involved in concrete work. The ability to identify dependencies, problems, and risks and to act solution-orientedly based on them is essential to us.

Why OP?

To help counterbalance work where you are expected to take a lot of responsibility, we seek to ensure employee wellbeing and to enable forward-looking work arrangements. We offer a stable working environment where you can contribute to our core values: responsibility, people first and succeeding together.

You will enjoy a wide range of staff benefits, including a personnel fund and special terms for employee banking, insurance and loan services. We offer comprehensive occupational health care, extensive medical treatment expenses insurance and a full-time group accident insurance policy. Furthermore, we invest in wellbeing at work by encouraging a good work-life balance, providing flexibility in your daily life, and offering lunch, sport and cultural benefits and opportunities for affordable holidays in OP timeshares.

We also encourage and help you to further develop yourself as a technical professional. We apply a 70/20/10 model, which means you will use 70% of your time for your daily tasks, 20% to develop the way you do those tasks, and the last 10% is reserved for you to learn and try new things. You will also have our OP Software Academy at your disposal in case you are interested in learning new technologies or methodologies, or why not in honing your skills in your current stack.
