We are seeking a skilled Principal Software Development Engineer who can be the Product Owner for a scrum team of five to seven people with a focus on a Fire Unit Software product. 

This position is onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts as part of the Patriot Software Development Team.   

What You Will Do:

As Product Owner, the candidate will work with the Fire Unit Sub-IPT Lead to ensure that the backlog is well-managed, user stories are clear, and priorities are set effectively.  In addition to managing the team backlog, the ideal candidate will have the ability to become a subject matter expert and software lead on the team.  As a subject matter expert, the candidate will be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle. 

• Update, refine and prioritize the team’s backlog to ensure that the team is always focused on the most critical features that deliver value
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new features, ensuring system integration and scalability. 
• Collaborate with the Fire Unit Sub-IPT lead (the FU Product Owner) and communicate issues that the development team faces that impede progress
• Work effectively within a team and function as an individual contributor as needed, working autonomously with limited supervision
• This position requires exclusive onsite presence. 

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. 
• Experience in embedded systems, real-time systems, or large-scale applications. 
• Experience with multithreading, memory management, or performance optimization in complex environments. 
• Experience in a Unix/Linux operating system. 
• Experience in product owner related activities like managing the expectations and inputs of various stakeholders while keeping the product vision intact, or similar.
• Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles, particularly in high-concurrency and distributed systems. 
• Experience with Network Communication Protocols, Shell Scripting (tcsh, csh, bash), software development tools like Git/Clearcase, software debuggers, and using embedded RTOSs (e.g. VxWorks, Integrity). 
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
• Strong communication and teamwork skills. 
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git). 
• Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.).
