What you Will Do:
Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development including: requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation. We integrate control and diagnostic system design across other engine system modules and with the air vehicles and provide support throughout the complete engine product life cycle.
The DPLM discipline within CDS is responsible for the development and deployment of cutting edge diagnostics, prognostics, analytics and Usage Based Lifing (UBL) for P&W engines and components and deploying state of the art development tools & methodologies in collaboration with the P&W business segments.
In this specific role / posting, we are seeking a key team member within our diagnostic team to be a senior UBL team member.
UBL is a key enabler to Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) which is being integrated into multiple military programs and is a potential business opportunity for commercial engines. UBL requires knowledge and coordination with Component Centers, Structures & other analytical engineering disciplines on model development. Additional coordination with S/W Developers & Customer Support will be required when implementing these methods & tools for Life Management.
Job responsibilities include:
- Coordinate with Component Centers, Structures & other engineering disciplines for algorithm development, verification & validation.
- Develop S/W requirements & test cases for specific UBL algorithms & System methods required for use in deployed systems.
- Coordinate with Customer Support Engineering / Logistics Program Management (LPM) on system requirements and methods for life management with UBL.
- Support and report on Accelerated Mission Testing (AMT) UBL results to Program & Components.
- Support updates to Duty Cycle through analysis of UBL results.
- Support component usage evaluation based on analysis of UBL results.
What You Will Learn:
- This role will give you exposure to a wide variety of engineering challenges and you will be involved in a critical role for F135 and F119 along other commercial and military programs.
The position is based at the P&W West Palm Beach facility and will report to the DPLM, Associate Director.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- 8 years of engineering experience or 5 years with an advanced degree
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Basic Heat Transfer & Structural Engineering knowledge.
- Working experience of PW Lifing Processes, tools and methods such as ANSYS, PWLife, SURCK and AutoLife NX / NT.
- Structural or Heat Transfer Analysis experience.
- Basic Computer Programming knowledge (Python, FORTRAN, C, C++, JAVA, etc.)
- Matlab.
- Strong familiarity with MS Project, Word & Excel..
- Visual Basic, PERL, Python or other scripting knowledge is desired but not required.
