Purpose
The Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL) delivers capabilities to government customers for all applications, from on-site real-time data-intensive underwater acoustic signal processing to standalone remote field systems.
ESL is seeking a motivated individual to provide systems administration support for the Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL) systems within the University of Texas at Austin, Applied Research Laboratories and at site installations.
Responsibilities
Configure, deploy, and maintain and support hardware using Windows and Linux operating systems on both servers and workstations.
Participate in Windows and Linux patching activities.
Administer system services, including Active Directory, DNS, SSSD, samba, and NFS file serving capabilities in a heterogeneous network.
Configure, deploy, and maintain containerized applications and services.
Support compliance requirements by performing and remediating SCAP scan findings, Tenable SC scans, application of STIGs and related tasks to improve the security footprint
Configure, deploy, and maintain Ansible automated processes.
Configure, deploy, and maintain virtualized server environments.
Develop, improve, troubleshoot and implement new solutions that meet the resource demands on a system or network.
Maintain third-party administrative software (e.g., anti-virus, software inventory and performance monitoring).
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
HS/GED
Three years of system administration experience.
Must hold a DoD 8570.01 approved certification to satisfy an IAT Level II position or must obtain certification(s) within 6 months from hire date.
Working knowledge of Windows, Ubuntu, and Red Hat Linux in a heterogeneous environment.
Knowledge of SAN technologies, switches, containerization, and virtualization.
Ability to assess security posture by identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities.
Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. The position will require attention to detail, effective problem-solving skills and excellent judgment. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision and effectively communicate with all groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.
US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
More than three years of system administration experience.
Holds a current DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II approved certification.
Working knowledge of Microsoft domain concepts including Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP and DNS.
Knowledge of Linux shell commands and scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
Knowledge of InfiniBand network switching and protocols.
Experience with DoD Authority To Operate policies and procedures.
Experience in deploying and supporting DoD secured networks.
Knowledge of Risk Management Framework and/or DISA IA controls.
Access for immediate eligibility to classified information.
