About the role

Position Overview

United Health Services is seeking a Medical Office Assistant to support the daily operations of Occupational Health's busy medical office. In this frontline role, you will provide excellent service by greeting patients, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and managing medical records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. This position requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical assignments within scope of practice of a Medical Assistant to maximize patient experience and ensure patient safety.
  • Promotes and facilitates the compliance and understanding of Joint Commission, NYS DOH, Infection Control and all regulatory standards.
  • Maintains CLIA Waived Lab standards and performs CLIA Waived Lab testing and proficiency validations according to regulatory standards. Includes tri-annual AAFP Lab Proficiency testing, lab quality controls and lab credentialing.
  • Collaborates with patients, families and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate patient care.
  • Greets customers with a positive and friendly approach at every interaction.
  • Provides detailed quality service via phone, electronic messaging or in person.
  • Performs registration, scheduling and insurance verification as outlined by UHS Policy.
  • Maintains an awareness of patient wait times and work with team to provide updated information regarding any delays.
  • Answers patient questions and provides information as necessary in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Balances financial drawer and batches at the completion of each day.
  • Analyzes financial work list and take corrective actions as directed.
  • Maintains awareness of supplies, restock and order as necessary.
  • Scans documents into Next Gen as outlined by UHS Policy.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area at all times.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities, reviews PI data and assists in the development of Performance Improvement plans.
  • Participates in educational opportunities.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program or direct patient care experience, including but not limited to collection of patient information and data, patient interactions or assisting physicians with procedures in a medical office or hospital setting.
  • Documentation of current CPR certification required within 1 week of start of employment.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a walk in / primary care/ specialty care setting.
  • Certified medical administrative assistant (CMAA)
  • Strong clerical background with excellent computer skills
