Two (2) years of experience as a legislative aide or working in public relations, external affairs, or other elected official is preferred. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of basic management principles and practices; principles and techniques of public relations, public information, mass communications, journalism, news reporting, editing, advertising, or marketing; rules of grammar and punctuation. Ability to act as a spokesperson; analyze information and public relations needs; use independent judgment in handling media inquiries and news releases; research topics and write articles or prepare information for dissemination; conduct interviews for news articles; coordinate the planning, preparation and dissemination  of news releases, newsletters, speeches and other  materials; coordinate press conferences, displays and special events; develop and coordinate films, radio shows and television spot announcements; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; supervise people; determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to management activities; collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative  recommendations; solve problems, document workflow and other activities relating to the improvement of management practices. Skill in use of MS Word and Excel.

 

SPECIAL NOTES:

This position requires some travel and a valid driver’s license.

 

Must be available early mornings, evenings and weekends to perform outreach programs, as needed.

 

Salary Range: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 based on experience.

 

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

 

This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: 

This position serves as a high-profile representative of the Department of Financial Services within the Office of External Affairs and has been designated by the Chief Financial Officer as managerial in accordance with Section 110.205 (2)(n)1.a. Florida Statutes. Provides guidance to management, establishes priorities and objectives and formulates policy concerning the nature and scope of the services provided to the public through consumer outreach programs.

 

Conducts door-to-door outreach to engage constituents on behalf of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), providing consumer education about available programs, including hurricane preparedness/recovery and insurance information.
