As part of Waymo’s Safety policy management system, which includes the establishment and maintenance of a series of classes of documents. From company-level policies and standards manuals to task-level standard operating procedures, Enterprise Safety is the means by which standardizes the business of managing security across the Waymo enterprise by creating safety policies as well as writing safety procedures and processes. This position reports to the Manager of the Enterprise safety and will have the overall responsibility of managing the enterprise safety management system at Waymo. As the company’s internal point of contact, this position will interact with various organizations and individuals to help expand the library of documents under control. The objective of this role is to construct safety policies, and create the processes associated with those policies across the organization.
Position Description: Safety Policy Writer
Project Overview:
Waymo’s Enterprise Safety team is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a series of standard safety enterprise process models. From internal audit to safety risk, information, compliance, and safety culture management, Waymo’s use of enterprise architecture/business process management is a key means by which we standardize the business of managing safety.
Overall Responsibilities:
Authoring: Document detailed SMS policies and standards and incorporate stakeholder feedback using policy writing best practices, such as Federal Plain Language Guidelines.
Workflows: Collect input to determine the most appropriate workflow participants for the Author, Owner, Contributors, Reviewers, and Approvers for each document.
Create and maintain G-Suite-based templates for different organizational needs in partnership with a diverse user community base.
Planning and maintaining the standard operating procedures for Physical security infrastructure / Tech practice
Main competencies:
Compliance/Regulatory policy mgmt
Expert in safety policy writing with expertise in practices such as FPL
Scope, Analyze, create, and maintain policy documentation
Ability to create a process based on written policies
Expertise in gap analysis, and audit of processes
Ability to work with stakeholders across the business (Leadership skills)
Creative thinker, with risk management experience
Problem-solving skills
Relationship management skills
PCI/ISO27001/SOC2 compliance
Mandatory Skills/Qualifications: (All skills, both technical and soft, required to be successful in the role)
B.A. or B.S. in any discipline 8+ years of experience in a highly regulated industry such as aviation, transportation, energy, automotive manufacturing, Autonomous vehicles, or medical services.
Proven Policy writing and process writing skills
Must have knowledge of Federal Plain Language Guidelines
Safety experience, preferably in safety policy creation and implement
