JOB TITLE:   

Project Coordinator

JOB PURPOSE:  

The Native American Project Coordinator will provide direct student support and advising in partnership with the NAERCC. UW seeks to enhance the environment where Native American, particularly Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho students, see themselves reflected, embraced, and valued, and make connections to campus resources. The Native American Project Coordinator will facilitate the development and coordination of co-curricular programming and will work in conjunction with the Director of the NAERCC and partners across campus that support student success through engagement practices such as community-building activities, cultural programs, leadership development, community service, and identity development. 

The Native American Project Coordinator will facilitate student involvement in the planning and implementation of programs in the NAERCC and with other cultural resource centers on campus. They will be expected to collaborate with Native American and Indigenous Studies, High Plains American Indian Research Institute, campus departments, faculty and staff, Enrollment Management, Leadership Center, Registered Student Organizations, Multicultural Affairs, and Dean of Students Office to advance the mission of the NAERCC. 

The position reports to the Director of the Native American Education, Research, and Cultural Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate the recruitment, retention and graduation of Native American students. Serve as an advisor to campus groups and/or student clubs. Assist student organizations in meeting and assessing established developmental outcomes.
  • Collect, report and analyze assessment data. Conduct student-programming evaluations. Continue the development and assessment of student life and multicultural programs to enhance learning and achievement of Native American students.
  • Advise, mentor and advocate for prospective and current Native American students from across the University and service district regarding admissions, academics, financial aid, personal and other pertinent issues.
  • Develop and implement recruitment and retention programs for Native American students, including activities and events focused on enrollment, academic success, personal skill development and goal attainment.
  • Manage and develop scholarships. Design, coordinate and present programs, seminars, workshops and events focused on education, personal skill development, and goal attainment.
  • Keep the NAERCC open during heavy usage. Management of the phone, email and NAERCC website will also be critical. Create an environment that acknowledges, encourages and celebrates inclusivity and excellence. Promote student programming, student services and activities, and community service programs.
  • Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities and cultural backgrounds. Extend services through outreach to the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribal communities and beyond. Coordinate services and communications with other University of Wyoming departments.
  • Understand university regulations and policies, student and faculty engagement, assessment tools and resources for student participation and quality of programming. 
  • In collaboration with the NAERCC and other UW Native programs support policy development and protocols that will enhance the Native American student experience. Maintain and support the vision and mission of the Native American Education, Research, and Cultural Center. Maintain social media sites
  • Adhere to all University of Wyoming policies on Discrimination and Harassment, Sexual Misconduct and the Standards of Conduct.
  • Work with a multifaceted group of individuals to accomplish a holistic student support program. Organize and plan training's, programs and/or workshops. Strategize and develop short and long-term plans and goals. Serve as a student advocate and ombudsman.
  • Serve as a critical collaborator and co-coordinator for the Native American Summer Institute, helping to create classroom, social and recruitment experiences for future UW Students.
