New product Development:
- Support PD with design and development of packaging solutions from early concept through commercialization for sterile and non-sterile medical devices
- Own of all aspects of design verification of the packaging systems to meet design requirements and release to production.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and process engineering to implement packaging designs
- Develop component specifications, inspection plans and packaging protocols/reports to ensure that the packaging system performs to requirements.
- Support the PD team with Packaging adoptions
- Perform packaging related equipment validation activities in GBIO/Sterile packaging
- Create, optimize and own the packaging design selection process
Sustaining Engineering and Continuous improvement:
- Identify new packaging processes to improve efficiency and reduce cost
- Create and manage change requests within the document control system.
- Work with supply chain to identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Set standards within the organization on what packaging requirements are needed. Assist with ASTM/ISO standard reviews/gap assessments
- As a packaging SME, support audits, non-conformances and CAPAs as needed.
- Support re-qualification of sealing/packaging processes within clean room. Help with troubleshooting packaging equipment in GBIO and other sterile manufacturing facilities
Package Test Lab:
- Perform package testing for various projects
- Utilize package test lab for feasibility assessments for NPD and sustaining projects
Required Skills / Capabilities
- Knowledgeable in applying concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, geometric tolerances, and tolerance analysis in addition to ability to solve and interpret problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Knowledgeable with CAD software (eg Pro/E, CREO, and/or SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to perform basic packaging tests (able to lift up to 20 lbs of weight)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, safety rules, company policy, and procedure manuals
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively interact with varying levels of internal cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently and ability to respond and adapt to changing priorities
- Perform duties in compliance with applicable FDA and state regulations as well as standards including, but not limited to, ISO 13485 and ISO 11607
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering or any related technical discipline
- Previous medical device packaging design experience preferred.
