Job Description
This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined below:
International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. is looking for an individual who is an experienced Internal Medicine Physician to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of adult medical conditions, focusing on comprehensive care, preventive health, and the coordination of specialized services. They serve as primary care providers, emphasizing patient-centered approaches to promote overall wellness and improve health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Admit and coordinate all aspects of care for hospitalized medical patients including performing history and physical examinations.
- Appropriately admit and place patients within the Hospital.
- Evaluate and treat patients, including the ordering and the interpretation of diagnostic studies, including laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and electrocardiographic examinations.
- Administer medications normally considered part of the practice of hospital medicine.
- Document and Discuss end-of-life preferences and refer advanced care planning consultations with sub-specialists.
- Proactively plan for discharge and Coordinate care with primary care physician.
- Ensure appropriate follow-up is arranged.
- Provide care to patients in critical/acute care settings in conformance with VA policies.
- Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. This includes running code teams and rapid response teams.
- Review all admissions to inpatient hospital care recommended by Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner providers.
- Provide admission to inpatient care and ensure a person-to-person hand-off from the admitting provider to a responsible member of the admitting team.
- Provide consultation with and instruction to referring physicians regarding appropriate indications for procedures so that the most expeditious and clinically appropriate work-up can be done.
- Determine the appropriate course of treatment and communicate in person or by phone with the referring clinicians.
- Initiate appropriate social work referrals for all identified homeless veterans and for patients who do not have primary care providers.
- Follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
- Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Hospital patients.
- Assure mechanisms in-place to provide notification of test results for patients receiving care in accordance with VHA Directive 1088, Communicating Test Results to Providers and Patients.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required by the facility Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee.
