Overview: The Fitness  and Wellness Director is responsible for the overall leadership, development,  and daily operations of the Fitness Center, wellness programs, JSpa, and  Momentum. This role includes oversight of staff, recruitment, programming,  facility maintenance, and member engagement. The Director must provide strong  leadership, vision, and guidance for personal training, group fitness, and  specialized wellness programs that meet the needs of a diverse member base. The  ideal candidate is collaborative, energetic, and passionate about wellness and  fitness. They must work cross-functionally with other departments to promote  wellness initiatives, membership growth, and the mission of the JCC. This role  requires strong administrative skills, independent judgment, and the ability  to inspire a high-performing team while creating a safe, inclusive, and  motivating environment for members and staff.

Requirements

  

General Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strategic leadership and daily oversight of the Fitness Center, JSpa, and all related wellness programs.
  • Oversee the development, scheduling, staffing, and quality of group fitness classes and personal training programs to ensure they meet member needs and industry standards.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate fitness staff, ensuring alignment with JCC values and standards. 
  • Develop, implement and supervise successful Fitness and Wellness instruction, personal training, group fitness instruction, and special events for members in all categories.
  • Strategically position the Fitness Department to recruit and retain members to contribute to the JCC’s future successes.
  • Create a safe and welcoming environment for participants of all fitness levels to exercise.
  • Develop a cohesive team to support and grow Momentum and other programs.
  • Oversee health history records and attendance tracking.
  • Work with Marketing Director to promote programs and activities and maintain an engaging social media presence.
  • Prepare and manage the annual Fitness Department budget.
  • Responsible for achieving and reporting on monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue objectives.
  • Prepare statistics and reports on the fitness department as requested by the Chief Program Officer.
  • Foster team communication, collaboration and accountability by addressing concerns promptly and constructively.
  • Ensure that all new Fitness Center employees receive comprehensive onboarding and training per standard operation procedures (SOP).
  • Maintain an active presence in the center through personal training and/or teaching group fitness classes.
  • Report all repairs to maintenance immediately and follow up.
  • Oversee the purchase and maintenance of equipment and supplies, ensuring proper care and timely repair request.
  • Ensure cleanliness, organization, and efficient operation of the fitness center and exercise studios.
  • Review and approve payroll for fitness staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance Expectations: 

  • Understand/possess an openness to Jewish religion and traditions.
  • Attend all meetings and events that support the department’s main objectives and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including nontraditional hours for events.
  • Positively and actively promote the JCC’s mission, membership, programs, events, and charitable purpose to JCC members and the general public.
  • Be familiar with the mission, vision statements, and Core Values of the JCC. Model the Core Values while working and communicating with members and staff.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science or a related field
  • 2 years of experience in fitness/wellness management, including staff supervision.
  • Must hold and maintain a current nationally recognized certification in personal training
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a diverse team.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including budgeting and reporting.
  • Excellent customer service skills
