Job Summary
 

The Director, Business and Society Programs is responsible for the strategic oversight and management of a vertical that includes the established and expanding Edwardson Social Entrepreneurship Program, impact finance, sustainability, and programming around broader questions of business in society. As the contours of the social sector expand, so too have the Center’s programs. Students are more interested than ever in social entrepreneurship, impact investing, ESG, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and more.

The Director manages several team members who lead specific programs and also has personal responsibility for developing and executing a portfolio of programs in this vertical. The director cultivates and maintains strong relationships with key constituents including faculty, students, UChicago staff, practitioners in CSR sustainability, and impact finance, social entrepreneurs, impact investors, and ecosystem contributors.

Responsibilities

  • Spearheads strategic direction for programming in expanded business in society vertical, including social entrepreneurship, impact finance, sustainability, and CSR with expansion of programming in this domain for alumni
  • Supervises the program team, currently 3 staff members, delivering student, alumni, and public facing programs and events related to social entrepreneurship, impact finance, sustainability, CSR, and emerging topics related to business and society.
  • Ensures oversight and coordinated execution across the many different programs and resources under the Edwardson Social Entrepreneurship Program, including the John Edwardson, ’72, Social New Venture Challenge.
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight across all impact finance programs, including the suite of impact investing programs led by an associate director.
  • Oversees the development and execution of a portfolio of programs which may evolve over time but could include ESG, faculty commercialization, wrap-around support for entrepreneurs, democracy and business, and more.
  • Leverages leadership and industry experts to help develop and facilitate programming as needed.
  • Experiments with programming in emerging areas (i.e. democracy and business).
  • Works with Rustandy Center leadership, marketing, advancement, and other key partners to ensure appropriate stewardship for donors to this vertical and cultivation opportunities for prospective donors.
  • Leads alumni-and public programs in these domains, including the public though leadership series including Innovating for Social Equity and Unpacking ESG, partnering across the Center and with other units as needed.
  • Cultivates and develops network of practitioners in these domains, with a special focus on those from the UChicago network and in the Chicago ecosystem.
  • In partnership with the Center’s operations and strategic initiatives team, develops and tracks metrics to assess the success of these initiatives.
