Job Summary

Job Description

A Fuel Mechanic will perform maintenance and mechanical repair work as assigned in the various shops/areas located at the Beckville Landfill facilities.  These areas may include the rolling stock maintenance fleet, assembly-line preventive maintenance shop (ALPM), railroad shop.  The worker may use the following tools/equipment:  hand tools/wrenches, measuring devices, grinders, stud guns, welding machine, cutting torch, water cannon, and heavy-duty high-pressure washing wands. 

Some of the duties of a Fuel Mechanic may include:

• Inspect/troubleshoot; change oil/filters, cutting blades/edges and major components (engines, transmissions, undercarriage, etc.) on large, motorized equipment; perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on excavators, diesel powered locomotives, railroad cars, and hauling equipment.

• Perform painting/carpentry/construction work; operate large, motorized equipment, mobile cranes, forklifts and trucks.

Bargaining unit position represented by IBEW 2337. Hourly rate: $38.46.

Minimum requirements

• High school diploma/GED required.

• Five years industrial mechanic experience preferred.
