As a Principal Software Engineer with Sezzle, you will work with a highly-motivated team to tackle interesting and challenging problems across multiple areas of the organization. We are looking for an experienced principal engineer who will maintain and upgrade all our existing software.

The responsibilities will include recommending updates to resolve software issues, improve functionality, pilot new applications, mentoring other engineers, and ensure your functional area exceeds our quality standards. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing, developing, deploying new features, facilitating conversations, delivering new features, as well as unblocking and mentoring your teammates.

This role will have multiple stakeholders which want you to be successful. Working with 3rd party providers to establish relationships, reading their documentation, making recommendations, and building with the teams through the entire SDLC. You will have a significant impact in the day-to-day lives of your peers at Sezzle, enhancing their ability to support our business and customers, and you will have opportunities to take any feedback and iterate.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Design software applications and features in Golang (Go) and React
• Help build out a distributed architecture, creating solutions that work within it, maintaining consistency while scaling highly
• Coordinate with internal company stakeholders to design market winning products
• Develop and collect metrics to drive continuous improvement of existing products
• Deliver high quality features which can be tested and adheres to reporting standards
• As needed, lead small development teams to bring a project to market
• Mentor other engineering teammates to help elevate their experience and knowledge

Minimum Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in financial technology (FinTech)
• Experience bringing new ideas and building consensus on the path forward
• Proven experience with building and serving REST APIs using Go
• Proven experience working in a distributed, cloud-based architecture at scale
• BS in Computer Science or similar degree, or equivalent work experience
• Proven communication skills advocating for change and seeing it through

Skills and Requirements:

• Experience with an ANSI SQL database (Mysql, Postgres, Aurora, etc)
• Comfortable using observability platforms like Prometheus, or vendor solutions like NewRelic or Datadog to instrument your code for production monitoring and alerting
• Proven experience delivering commercial scalable microservice applications 
• Strong foundational knowledge of RESTful API architecture
• DevOps experience with CI/CD pipelines
• A clear record of getting products to market and prioritizing solutions and improvements based on stakeholder/customer feedback
• Experience working with ElasticSearch, RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka, Caddy, and other tools
• Naturally curious to continue learning and identifying new development methods
• Strong presentation skills with diverse audiences
• Strong architecture / design pattern to fit different needs
