Title: Part-Time Associate Instructor, Math
Reports To: Senior Manager of Teaching and Learning
FLSA: Part-time, Seasonal
Compensation: $32 hourly
Location: Miami-Dade County, Florida (Remote)
Spring Semester Dates:
- Pre-Semester Orientation: Wed, Feb 5 (5:30-8:30pm)
- Programming Dates: Feb 22-May 17

POSITION OVERVIEW
Associate Instructors will join SEO’s community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Associate Instructors co-teach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini lessons, organize small group and one-on-one instruction, and provide additional Scholar support. Associate Instructors are the first to cover when there is an instructor absence and do not have grading responsibilities. Associate Instructors co-teach math and Identity & Empowerment (IE).
SEO Miami is a bichronous program for Scholars with lesson instruction is held 100% online, facilitated through Zoom.
COURSES
For Spring 2025, the following courses will be offered:
- 9th Math: Numbers and Operations
- Skills include: properties of numbers; expressions, equations, and identities; ratio and rate; percentages; proportional reasoning; irrational numbers; linear, quadratic, and exponential functions (including compound growth formula); algebraic representation of functions; graphing functions and identifying key characteristics; modeling real-world situations with functions; systems of equations and inequalities; algebra with exponents; fractional exponents and roots; algebra with rational expressions and equations; properties 2D and 3D geometric figures; introduction to coordinate geometry.

- 9th Grade Identity & Empowerment course: Personal and Social Identities
PROGRAMMING DATES, TIMES, AND HOURS
- Self-guided Asynchronous Instructor Training: New Instructional staff will complete Asynchronous Training that equates to 10 hours of work. This can be completed on your own time and will be completed prior to the start of programming.
- Instructor Orientations: Wednesday, February 5, 5:30-8:30pm on Zoom
- Meet the Instructors: 9th Grade Instructors meet incoming SEO Scholars: Wednesday, February 19, 5:30-6:30pm
- Instruction: February 22-May 17:
- Synchronous Online Instruction
- Saturday Academy programming, 9:35am-2:15pm
- 02/22, 03/01, 03/08, 03/22, 04/05, 04/12, 04/19, 05/03, 05/10, 05/17
- Asynchronous Academic Support
- Hold office hours, meet with Student Advisor, and engage with Scholars’ work asynchronously
- Thursdays from 5:30-7:30pm on select weeks
- 03/03-03/07, 03/17-03/21, 03/31-04/04, 04/14-04/18, 04/28-05/02, 05/12-05/16
The Instructors’ weekly hours are made up of standard and flex expectations, varying based on the programming weeks. Weekly hours will range from 10-18 hours/week based on asynchronous or synchronous weeks of programming.
- Standard Hours are when the instructor must be working synchronously with staff or students
- Saturday Academy: 9:35am-2:15pm
- Asynchronous Week Office Hours: Thursday evenings, 5:30-7:30pm on select weeks
- Flex Hours make up the additional “instructor work” educators know go into the job. This is time spent preparing for the lesson, grading, entering gradebook data, writing Scholar feedback, communicating with staff and Scholars, etc. These are hours put in outside of the required schedule and can be completed asynchronously throughout the week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Online Instruction & Facilitation – Co-Teach four to five periods including ELA and Identity & Empowerment classes. When asked to cover for another instructor, Associate Instructors will lead the class on their own. Follow provided lesson plans and meet lesson objectives, abiding by SEO’s articulated criteria for rigorous instruction and student engagement.
