About the role

Description

Occupational therapists treat differently abled, ill, or injured patients with the use of special equipment and the therapeutic use of daily activities. They help patients improve, regain, and develop the skills needed for day-to-day life and work. The Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) is responsible for evaluation, design and delivery of prescribed Occupational Therapy programs (within the parameters of training and expertise) to clients.


This position will provide OT services on an as-needed basis to patients in a variety of skilled nursing, assisted living, in-home, and other community-based settings.  Travel to various treatment locations within the state of Rhode Island is required.


Essential Functions:

  • Fulfill all job functions of a staff Occupational Therapist within the clinical scope of practice.
  • Diagnosing patients by observing their movements and listening to their concerns   
  • Reviewing patients’ medical histories and develops an individualized treatment plan 
  • Outlining clear goals for patients and the expected outcomes of the plan 
  • Responsible for documentation of these evaluations and treatments, recording patient status, treatment response, changes noted, patient/family education, recommendations and other patient-centered actions taken.
  • Communicating within a multi-disciplinary team who are committed to the patients’ well-being  
  • Recording patients’ progress and modifying the plan of care if needed   
  • Educating patients and family members about the recovery process 
  • Assists in the implementation of patient treatment, including overseeing Occupational Therapy Assistants as necessary.
  • Complying with federal, state, and local certification requirements.

Education/Experience Required:

  • A bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from a university certified by the ACOTE (Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education) or AOTA (American -Occupational Therapy Association). 
  • Valid Occupational Therapist license in the state(s) where services are rendered.
  • Must possess a valid and current driver license and auto insurance. 
  • Interest in working with all abilities including the intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) population
  • Willingness to obtain CPR/BLS certification or current certification
