40Position Summary
With direction from the Manager of Engineered Systems and Assistant Manager of Fire Safety, the Mechanic works with a team of 4-5 mechanics to troubleshoot, maintain and test fire alarm systems for campus buildings including assisting in the annual, campus-wide fire alarm testing. Additionally, they support the ancillary systems monitored by the fire alarm panels such as elevator recall and fire suppression. The mechanic works closely with internal customers including students, faculty and staff to resolve issues and work orders.This position is a member of the collective bargaining unit, Local #148 International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify, communicate, and address fire alarm deficiencies and failures.
- Diagnose fire systems failures using a variety of diagnostic tools including, but not limited to, multi-meter, computer-based fire alarm software, electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Assist in annual testing of fire alarm system including, but not limited to, smoke and heat detectors, door hold opens, smoke exhaust systems, etc.
- Respond to work order requests in a timely, efficient, competent, and friendly manner.
- Maintain records such as test results per department policy.
- Utilize material, supplies, tools, and other University assets in a safe, and responsible manner.
- Respond to work orders and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable, safe/secure and friendly manner.
- Willingness to work in multi-craft positions/situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver’s License by the end of the Probationary period and cannot drive University owned vehicles until Class E Driver’s License is obtained.

$37.93The salary rate for this position is determined by the current union contract. Please note that there may be salary differentials for working second or third shifts.
