Context/Scope:
The Director of Operations role is responsible for providing leadership in the development and execution of the packaging strategy and critical metric delivery for the all three packaging halls in the 24x7 manufacturing operation.
Purpose of Role:
- Develop the skills and capabilities necessary for delivering safe, high quality products on time and in full.
- Lead the site execution of the MMS strategy – ‘run’ and ‘improve’ the operation.
- Create the optimum performance culture by fully demonstrating a strict adherence to the MMS tools and processes.
- Lead and actively engage in the manufacturing site leadership team, helping to provide strategic direction for the site, grow the capabilities of the workforce, and deliver critical metrics for the business
- Lead efforts of site to deliver key projects: line optimization, COGS challenge, waste reductions.
- Lead the safe execution of the production plan to required standard of quality delivery.
- Responsible for continuously improving all aspects of performance, increasing efficiencies in cost base & especially labor & wastage
- Lead & develop a team of packaging area managers, team leaders, and > 200 hourly associates, improving their engagement & productivity.
- Work in close and effective partnership with other area managers to drive consistent best in class practice
Key Outputs:
- Displays a high level of leadership and ability to influence key collaborators
- Delivery of core critical metrics Safety, Quality and Productivity.
- Establishes and effectively runs departmental budgets and objectives.
- Assists in the development of personal business objectives and performance standards for all employees in the department.
- Works with Central Planning to maintain optimum finished case goods inventory levels
- Ensures proper people, processes, and procedures are in place and working to ensure good customer service with minimal out of stocks.
- Maintains approved processes and procedures, and oversees the timely and cost effective implementation of all new product introductions, package changes, special projects, line extensions, etc.
- Carries out all management responsibilities in accordance with Diageo NA and Plainfield policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees
- Addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP), perform tasks per the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and follow general housekeeping guidelines and rules for Food Safety Regulations. Keep area updated with 5S.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Must have experience of running a large multi-line Plant and leading and coaching Managers
- College degree, graduate a plus, with 10+ years’ experience in/with premier production facilities, preferably consumer products
- End to end P&L experience is a plus
- Engineering Degree is preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong Leadership and experience leading direct reports
- Advanced practitioner of continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, Lean, and Kaizen.
