POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safety & Security Analytics Team in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis is seeking qualified candidates for a year long internship. The intern will work closely with analysts to generate statistical and graphical analyses of data that provide meaningful insight to safety data trends and generate predictions that are actionable. The intern will also engage with process and data experts throughout the organization to learn how to create a unified approach to problem solving related to identifying risks to customers and employees, mitigation strategies, and/or to improve processes to eliminate injuries, hazards, and risks in the workplace. The intern will focus on learning to design data modeling processes, create algorithms and predictive models to extract, analyze, summarize, and visualize data.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Learn to identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes while adhering to quality standards and procedures.
- Learn to Interpret and analyze data using exploratory mathematic and statistical techniques based on the scientific method to discover trends and patterns.
- Participates in guided, multifaceted analytic studies against large volumes of data.
- Conducts research and analytic activities utilizing various data points (unstructured and structured) and employ programming to clean, massage, and organize the data.
- Work closely with analysts to experiment against data points, provide information based on experiment results and provide previously undiscovered solutions to data challenges.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing a graduate degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, data analytics, data science, or other quantitative field.
- Must have at least 3 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of Python, or other programming languages
- Knowledge of SQL or other querying languages
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel including VBA to build macros, pivot tables, and advanced formulas/functions
- Knowledge of or experience with using BI tools such as PowerBI, SAP Business Objects, Tableau, or equivalent and data frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark or equivalent
- Knowledge of building predictive models and machine-learning algorithms a plus
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
