Function under the supervision of a leader or Certified Medical Assistant and only perform tasks consistent with the phase of the defined training program. All MA Scholars can perform the duties below.
Appropriate for all Medical Assistant Scholars upon hire:
Perform various clerical duties typical for a Medical Assistant
Check for expired medication and products and alert appropriate leader to results
Exam room cleaning and preparing for next patient, restocking
Front desk in-basket as needed
Schedule appointments
Shadow clinical teammates for exposure to clinical roles/responsibilities
Maintain compliance with HIPAA
Act consistently with Atrium Health’s Culture Commitments
Other clerical duties as assigned but not to exceed this scope of the scholar program
Complete required training for this role/program, including but not limited to: Encompass Scheduling Basics ENCRC2001
This role is part of a lager development program and is designed to grow in responsibilities as the teammate moves through their educational program. Teammates are intended to remain in this role for approximately 1 year before advancing to a Medical Assistant or CMA position.
Education
Must be currently enrolled in or accepted to a medical assistant program approved through the Clinical Education Affiliation Agreement process with a program start date within 2 months of date of hire. Teammates can remain in this position while in the final stages of the Scholar Development program. If a teammate is no longer enrolled in a medical assistant program, they must inform their leader as they may no longer be qualified for this position.

Communication skills (verbal and written), continuous learner.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Works in patient care area, with potentially combative or self-destructive patients. Work requires walking, standing, lifting, reaching, handling of charts, supplies, equipment, blood, and body fluids.
