About the role

Mission

The Vice President of Fleet Operations is the senior leader responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of Motional’s Autonomous Vehicle (AV) testing, commercial fleet operations, and fleet management and logistics. The VP of Fleet Management is responsible for ensuring development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization through fiscal responsibility, providing quality service to customers and other stakeholders, and leading culture to ensure the delivery of a safe, reliable and accessible AV Fleet.

What you'll be doing

  • Establishes, implements, and communicates the strategic direction of the organization’s Commercial Fleet Operations, AV Testing Operations, and Fleet Management departments.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet company goals while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.
  • Collaborates with other departments and teams to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and use of resources and materials.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive and detailed economic cost analyses for fleet optimization decisions.
  • Ensures that departmental decisions, staffing plans, project management, and all capital and operational expenses are aligned with the organization’s business plan and vision.
  • Executes long-term and short-term fleet plans.
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements operations-related policies, practices, standards, and safety measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.
  • Reviews and approves cost-control reports, cost estimates, and staffing requirements for projects.
  • Establishes and administers the department’s budget and monthly forecast in partnership with the Finance team. 
  • Presents periodic performance reports and metrics to the chief operating officer and other senior executives.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in operations management and the AV industry.
  • Identifies development needs and works with appropriate departments and business partners to ensure proper training is developed and provided.
  • Leads and continuously develops a high performing team that demonstrates Motional’s core values
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally at least 30% of the time

As the ideal candidate, your qualifications include:

  • A minimum of 10 years of senior operations management experience in a complex and dynamic business environment. 
  • Large scale commercial fleet operations experience building and deploying required, with a focus on scaling service while delivering an outstanding customer experience.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills enabling you to successfully lead and mentor people both virtually and in-person.
  • Ability to develop and interpret financial goals and results.
  • Proven track record of leading by example, proven mentorship, positive relationship building and customer satisfaction, managing change and building culture.
  • Business development support initiatives and experience in commercializing a new product or service.
  • Experience managing large commercial fleet operations required.

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Engineering, or other industry-related field required; MBA preferred.

 

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs.
