Maintenance/Reliability Scheduler

The Maintenance/Reliability Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the daily and weekly maintenance schedules for the OSB mill. This role ensures planned work is scheduled effectively, resources are allocated efficiently, and maintenance activities are coordinated with production to maximize equipment reliability and mill uptime. Safety is the highest priority, and this position plays a key role in ensuring all scheduled work is performed in a safe, compliant, and organized manner.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all scheduled work complies with West Fraser safety standards, OSHA regulations, and site-specific procedures.
- Incorporate safety requirements into the scheduling process, including lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space permits, and contractor safety orientation.
- Actively participate in safety meetings and reinforce a strong safety culture across maintenance and production teams.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Develop and publish weekly maintenance schedules based on priority work orders, preventive maintenance plans, and production requirements.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Planners, Supervisors, and Production to align schedules with available labor, equipment access, and downtime opportunities.
- Adjust schedules to accommodate emergency repairs or operational changes while maintaining focus on safety and reliability goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Resource Management
- Assign work to appropriate trades and crews based on skill, availability, and workload balance.
- Monitor labor utilization and ensure scheduling promotes efficient and safe use of resources.
- Work with contractors and vendors to schedule outside services in compliance with mill safety standards.
Reliability Focus
- Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance tasks are scheduled and executed on time.
- Support reliability initiatives by incorporating vibration, lubrication, inspection, and condition-monitoring tasks into schedules.
- Track schedule compliance and follow up on completed work to support safe, reliable operations.
Clerking & Job Close-Out
- Review completed work orders and ensured all required information (labor hours, parts used, permits closed, safety notes, completion codes) is accurately recorded in the CMMS.
- Validate that feedback from maintenance crews and supervisors is documented for continuous improvement.
- Update backlog and scheduling records based on completed work to maintain accurate reporting.
- Generate reports on schedule compliance, job completion status, and outstanding issues.
Communication
- Act as a central point of contact between Maintenance, Reliability, and Production for all scheduling activities.
- Facilitate daily and weekly scheduling meetings, ensuring safety-critical work is clearly communicated and prioritized.
- Provide timely communication of schedule changes to all stakeholders.
Systems & Reporting
- Utilize the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to generate schedules, update work orders, track progress, and close jobs.
- Maintain accurate records of scheduled vs. completed work, schedule compliance, and safety-related tasks.
- Provide reports to the Reliability Manager on schedule effectiveness, safety performance, and backlog management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Maintenance, Reliability, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in industrial maintenance, reliability, or planning/scheduling roles (OSB, pulp & paper, or heavy manufacturing preferred).
