Job Description

Position Summary:

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern working in the Manufacturing Engineering Department at ITW Residential & Renovation Construction North America the intern will be working with the Operations, and Manufacturing teams to develop robust manufacturing processes and procedures. They will engage in problem investigation and design of machine solutions. Participate in process analysis, identification of trends, compile data, report on findings and recommendation to resolve. The intern will be involved in new manufacturing process implementations and the associated design changes to ensure the appropriate methods are developed, documented and implemented to manufacture.

Core Responsibilities:

The Intern will work with members of the operations and engineering teams to develop and refine our manufacturing processes, equipment and products to result in the following:

  • Improved manufacturing processes and procedures
  • Investigation & Resolution of identified issues
  • Improved documentation of Processes and Procedures
  • Improved process flow, productivity and quality.
  • New methods implemented to support new or changes to existing products

Expected Intern Learning:

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments
  • Exposure to fastener manufacturing and packaging; including:
    • Automated equipment
    • Fastener Heading, threading and associated QC methods
    • Associated quality requirements and inspection methods to insure product conformity & performance
  • Root cause analysis
  • Project Management
  • Working with and leading a project team
  • Inclusive but not limited to manufacturing processes: shipping, packaging, etc.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Rising Senior (graduating December 2024 or May 2025) currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering degree or related field
  • Competent working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Basic CAD modeling experience with Solid Works a plus
  • Previous internship experience in an HR or Talent function, preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn, demonstrated curiosity and a drive to excel
  • Must enjoy being hands on
  • Ability to travel our other local facility in Itasca, IL as needed
