About the role

Job Summary

The Air Safety Data Engineer level I will collaborate with the other Data Engineers and the broader Enterprise Data & Analytics team and IT teams to help implement data repositories and pipelines that support our next generation of products and data initiatives. This role will focus on development of Air Safety and corporate level Safety Management Systems (SMS) reporting processes including the Safety of Flight Report (SFR) and Field Service Issue (FSI) reporting programs, and the Air Safety Accident Database.  This role will participate in design specifications and will be required to code, test, debug and deploy solutions using the Microsoft Power App platform and also accomplish work using Excel. 

This position also participates in excel spreadsheet and flight data analysis and the creation of Accident Database products including routine executive level report generation and PowerBI maintenance and development. It also supports Cirrus Product Development and Innovation efforts within depth accident data.

This position reports to the Director of Air Safety.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Provide high quality corporate level safety reports and safety data
    • Provide senior leaders with routine (monthly/quarterly) and immediate “ad hoc” safety data responses
  • Partner with senior IT Data Engineers to create and maintain data pipelines (employee reporting systems)
    • Manage reporting platforms both strategically (development) and tactically (support current operations)
    • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems
  • Develop the Cirrus BowTie software Safety Management System (SMS) hazard register. BowTie training will be provided.
  • Maintain the existing Access Accident database and manage the transition to a new database in cooperation with IT.
  • Support development of Cirrus IQ data analysis including data filtering, IQ fleet dashboards and data query development IQ training will be provided.
  • Manage Air Safety PowerBI pages
  • Enhance all data analysis processes for Air Safety to include routine excel data extraction of accident data to allow analysis
  • Perform detailed excel historical accident data analysis to support projects and Product Development teams
  • Work together with colleagues and management as a team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience using data engineering tools including Excel, PowerApp, and PowerBI are essential
  • A strong desire to develop data driven solutions to enhance Cirrus Aircraft operational safety and drive enhancements in Cirrus Aircraft product safety and quality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new systems and technologies

Other Duties

  • Limited travel to attend training or industry safety conferences is anticipated 3-4 times per year
  • Manage routine internal product (aircraft) safety report reviews
  • Present data at routine internal safety meetings, take minutes, track action items
  • Support other department data needs including engineering, reliability data needs
  • Maintain SMS hazard registers, BowTie software hazard analysis, other SMS tracking registers
